Nationalization of K-12 Education

29 Jul

Greg Forster, writing in the Public Discourse, makes us aware of a behind-the-scenes move by the Obama administration and Congress to nationalize public education.  Federalism, the American system where local and state governments are given great flexibility to innovate and experiment with public policy, has long provided a safeguard against what would clearly be the greatest culture war battle to date, the politicization and nationalization of public education.  Apparently, that’s the next item on the collectivization agenda.  Funny, for folks that constantly talk about the virtues of diversity, they sure seem to find one size they think fits all in on so many issues.  Imagine small-town or rural public schools having their curriculum and overall environment determined by the great urban centers and cultural elites in America.  Great article.
